Cheteshwar Pujara, one of India’s most dependable Test batsmen, announced his retirement from all forms of cricket on August 24, 2025, closing a remarkable career that spanned from 2010 to 2023. In a candid post-retirement interview, Pujara expressed his belief that it is time to let the younger generation step into the spotlight and carry Indian cricket forward.

The 37-year-old, known as the “wall” of India’s Test batting, reflected on his decision by saying, “For any sportsperson, there comes a time to move on. I felt this was the right moment to allow the next generation to establish themselves.” Pujara also noted that he had consulted family, friends, and fellow cricketers before making this career-defining call.

With an impressive record of 7,195 runs in 103 Tests at an average above 43, including 19 centuries, Pujara was a mainstay in India’s middle order for over a decade. He endured many challenges and injuries but remained a tremendous presence, especially after Rahul Dravid’s retirement, taking over the No. 3 spot with resilience and classical technique.

Pujara also revealed his growing interest in media work and commentary, which he has already begun pursuing. “Though I’m not playing anymore, I intend to stay connected with the game, calling matches and sharing my insights,” he shared. This transition reflects his ongoing passion for cricket beyond the playing field.

The veteran batsman closed the interview with gratitude and pride, thanking teammates, coaches, support staff, and fans for their unwavering support. “Playing for India was a dream come true, and I cherish the memories and proud moments from my career.”

As India embarks on a new Test era, Pujara’s message emphasizes trust and confidence in upcoming players, inspiring fans and promising continuity in the team’s quest for excellence.
