PM Modi has inaugurated the Suzuki Motor Plant in Hansalpur, Gujarat, which will act as a key manufacturer of the e-Vitara and the brand’s EV powering batteries.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi inaugurated the Suzuki Motor Plant in Hansalpur, Gujarat, marking a significant milestone for India’s electric mobility ambitions. The state-of-the-art facility will serve as the primary manufacturing hub for Maruti Suzuki’s first-ever electric vehicle, the e-Vitara, and the production of advanced batteries to power this and the brand’s hybrid vehicles.

In his remarks, PM Modi emphasized the importance of self-reliance and India’s emerging role as a global hub for green mobility. He highlighted that the e-Vitara will be manufactured in India and exported to over 100 countries worldwide, including advanced markets such as Japan and Europe. This inauguration reflects the success of the “Make in India” and “Aatmanirbhar Bharat” initiatives, showcasing India’s growing strength in sustainable technology.

The plant also features the commencement of domestic production of lithium-ion battery cells and electrode manufacturing through a collaboration between Toshiba, Denso, and Suzuki at the TDS Lithium-Ion Battery plant. This localization of battery components is expected to reduce India’s reliance on imports and boost the domestic EV ecosystem.

The Hansalpur facility will not only produce the electric e-Vitara but also the hybrid models Grand Vitara and Invicto, supporting Maruti Suzuki’s vision to scale EV and hybrid vehicle production. The Prime Minister noted the brand’s journey over the last decade towards this achievement and expressed confidence that such advancements would contribute significantly to India’s goal of becoming a developed nation by 2047.

This inauguration coincides with Maruti Suzuki’s ambitious production target of 67,000 electric vehicles by March 2026, with a large portion aimed at exports.

Dignitaries present included Gujarat Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel, Japan’s Ambassador Keiichi Ono, and Suzuki Motor Corporation President Toshihiro Suzuki.
