Meghalaya Police have filed a detailed 790-page chargesheet in the high-profile Raja Raghuvanshi murder case, naming his wife Sonam Raghuvanshi and her lover Raj Kushwaha among the prime accused. The chargesheet, submitted on Friday to the Judicial Magistrate First Class Court in Sohra, Meghalaya, includes five accused who are currently in judicial custody, charged with murder, criminal conspiracy, and destruction of evidence.
Raja Raghuvanshi, an Indore-based businessman, and his new wife Sonam had traveled to Meghalaya for their honeymoon in May 2025. On May 23, both went missing, triggering a massive search operation. Raja’s body was recovered days later from a deep gorge near Sohra, with the investigation revealing that the murder was premeditated. Sonam, allegedly unhappy with the marriage and involved in an extramarital relationship with Raj Kushwaha, conspired with three hired assailants—Akash Singh Rajput, Vishal Singh Chauhan, and Anand Kurmi—to kill Raja during the honeymoon trip.

The charges against the accused include sections under the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (2023), dealing with murder (Section 103 (1)), criminal conspiracy (Section 61 (2)), and removal or destruction of evidence (Section 238 (a)). The police statement also mentioned that a supplementary chargesheet will be filed soon against three other accused involved in tampering with evidence, pending forensic reports.
Superintendent of Police for East Khasi Hills, Vivek Syiem, stated that the submitted chargesheet is comprehensive, backed by substantial material evidence. The arrest and charge filing follows months of investigation involving multiple police units and forensic teams, highlighting the complex nature of the case.
