In observance of Ganesh Chaturthi, a major Hindu festival celebrated across India. This annual market holiday marks a pause in trading activities, providing investors with a day off to celebrate the occasion.

On this day, all trading segments, including equities, equity derivatives, currency derivatives, and securities lending and borrowing (SLB) frameworks, will be suspended. Investors will not be able to perform transactions or place orders on these platforms. The Multi Commodity Exchange (MCX) will also be closed for the morning session on August 27 but will resume trading in the evening session, while the National Commodity & Derivatives Exchange (NCDEX) will remain closed entirely for the day.

This mid-week holiday follows another market closure on August 15 for Independence Day, resulting in a lighter trading week overall. Traders should plan accordingly and be aware that the markets will reopen for regular sessions on Thursday, August 28, 2025.

The closure could contribute to increased market volatility once trading resumes, as investors adjust their positions based on global and domestic developments that occurred during the break. Market participants are expected to monitor international cues closely, especially movements in U.S. equities and global commodity prices, which can impact trading sentiment upon reopening.

Furthermore, banks across many regions in India will also observe the holiday, impacting banking services and cheque clearances.

Investors are advised to plan their trades and financial transactions ahead of this holiday to avoid any disruption. Digital and online platforms may continue to offer some services, but trading on primary exchanges will be paused for the day.
