The National Capital Region is on high alert as the Yamuna River is expected to cross a critical water level by 8 pm on September 3, 2025. Authorities have intensified monitoring and flood management efforts following continuous heavy rainfall and increased water discharge from Haryana’s Hathnikund Barrage. The river’s swelling has already led to the closure of the Old Railway Bridge as a preventive safety measure.

The Central Water Commission (CWC) reported that the water level at the Old Railway Bridge rose to 206.83 meters, surpassing the evacuation mark of 206 meters, and is projected to reach 206.90 meters by early morning on September 4. This level is significant as it signals a high risk of flooding in low-lying areas along the riverbanks

To mitigate potential damage and ensure public safety, the Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) deployed multiple National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) teams across Delhi for evacuation and rescue operations. District authorities have begun evacuating residents from vulnerable zones, setting up relief camps in areas like Mayur Vihar and Sonia Vihar.

The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has forecast moderate to heavy rainfall in Delhi and surrounding regions over the next few days, further escalating flood concerns. The persistent rains have also caused widespread waterlogging, traffic disruptions, and even road collapses, particularly in areas like Janakpuri.

Schools, both government and private, have been shut temporarily in response to the flood alert, emphasizing the seriousness of the situation. Authorities urge citizens to avoid travel to vulnerable locations and remain vigilant as the monsoon continues to impact Northern India.
