The Allahabad High Court has dismissed a petition seeking to ban the release of the upcoming Bollywood film “Jolly LLB 3,” starring Akshay Kumar and Arshad Warsi, clearing the way for its scheduled theatrical release on September 19, 2025. The petitioners had contended that the film and its promotional song “Bhai Vakeel Hai” demeaned the legal profession and judiciary, alleging derogatory portrayals of lawyers and judges.

A Division Bench comprising Justice Sangeeta Chandra and Justice Brij Raj Singh thoroughly reviewed the film’s trailers, teasers, and the contested song’s lyrics before delivering their verdict. The judges stated they found “nothing objectionable” that warranted judicial interference or impacted the dignity of the legal profession. The court emphasized that the song and film do not interfere with the genuine practice of law by advocates.

The petitioner, advocate Jay Vardhan Shukla, argued that the film’s portrayal could discourage law students and harm the judiciary’s image, potentially affecting the justice delivery system’s future. However, the court pointed out procedural norms under the 2021 Information Technology Rules stipulate that complaints about online content must first be addressed to the publisher or intermediary before seeking legal remedy. Agreeing with the Union government’s stance, the court dismissed the petition without imposing costs.

Previously, a Pune civil court had also been hearing related petitions, but the Allahabad High Court ruling serves as a significant endorsement for the film makers, allowing unfettered release. “Jolly LLB 3” continues the franchise’s legacy of combining courtroom drama with comedy and social commentary.
