In efforts to regulate the growing online gambling industry and protect users, the Indian government has banned several betting apps that were operating without authorization or violating existing laws. As of 2025, authorities have identified and prohibited use of at least 10 major betting platforms, citing concerns around illegal betting, financial risks, and data security. These bans reflect heightened scrutiny under the newly passed Online Gaming Bill and ongoing enforcement actions.

Among the most prominent apps banned are Betway, MELBET, AndarBahar Poker, Silver Luck, and Big Winner. Additionally, platforms such as Betfair Live Line, Zodiac Casino, SuperDraft Sportsbook, Betstamp, and Live Blackjack have been blocked from Indian access. The government’s crackdown is part of a wider effort to stem unregulated betting and prevent users from falling into debt traps.

“The ban on these apps is a critical step to ensure safe online entertainment and to curb the misuse of gaming apps for illicit financial activities,” said an official from the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology.

The rise in online betting during recent years, especially during sports seasons, has prompted the government to tighten regulations. The freshly enacted Online Gaming Bill, 2025, seeks to legalize skill-based gaming only, while banning all betting and gambling apps that rely on chance or involve real money betting without proper licenses.

Experts warn users to avoid banned apps as usage could lead to financial loss, legal penalties, and exposure to cybersecurity risks. Many of these apps have been removed from app stores or geo-blocked, but some still operate through unofficial channels, posing ongoing challenges for regulators.

Looking ahead, the government emphasizes the need for consumer awareness and stricter monitoring to prevent illegal betting. Users are encouraged to verify the legality of any betting or gaming platform before participation to ensure compliance with Indian law.

Here is a list of 10 banned betting apps in India as of 2025, based on recent government crackdowns and enforcement actions:

  4. Silver Luck
  5. Big Winner
  6. Betfair Live Line
