Meta has announced a new VR Glasses system for spring 2027, priced at US$1,299.99. For Indian readers, the distinction is important: the announcement does not establish an India launch date or an official rupee price.
The September 23 announcement describes glasses weighing about 100 grams, connected by an optical tether to a separate puck containing the computing hardware, battery and storage. The 100-gram figure therefore does not describe the complete system.
What Meta has announced
According to Meta’s official release, the system uses 5K micro-OLED displays and supports Dolby Vision and Dolby Atmos. Its proposed uses include immersive entertainment and a virtual multi-screen workspace. Meta claims up to three hours of continuous high-resolution media playback.
These are manufacturer statements, not results from a FizzZoom hands-on test. Battery life, comfort and everyday practicality remain questions for independent testing.
Why the separate puck matters
For a buyer, moving components away from the face creates another practical question: where does the rest of the system go? Before deciding, look for demonstrations showing the cable, the puck and the entire setup in ordinary use, rather than judging only a close-up of the glasses.
A useful review should show a complete viewing session, explain how the wearer moves around and describe what has to be charged and carried. A striking display specification alone cannot answer those questions.
What Indian buyers should check before ordering
- Local sale and support: wait for a named Indian seller, written warranty terms and a service route.
- Total cost: a dollar-to-rupee conversion is not an official local retail price. Ask what the final checkout price includes.
- Your content: check whether the services and films you actually use work in your location and whether separate subscriptions are needed.
- Fit: seek clear information about prescription support and return conditions before making a purchase decision.

This is worth following as a future personal-screen product. It is too early to recommend it as a purchase for an Indian household. The most useful next development would be a concrete local availability announcement followed by independent testing of the complete system.
